What You Should Know About a Wireless Security Surveillance Camera

A wireless security surveillance camera is also known as a wireless IP camera and it is used to relay a live video feed over a wireless network specifically the Internet. The security camera as you may imagine has a dedicated Internet connection and it consistently sends data over this connection to a predefined destination. Surveillance cameras have come a long way from the era of CCTV cameras which have their weaknesses. Wireless cameras such as the Foscam wireless IP camera can be used indoor, outdoor, at night, and during the day. These cameras can work round the clock to ensure that you can see your property any time you want.

One of the best things about a surveillance wireless camera system is that you do not have to pay a security guard to keep watching the video feed. You can do it by yourself as long as you have an internet connection. Any wireless router will do if you want to connect the IP to the Internet. The cables of CCTV's are very reliable in terms of delivering a video stream to the person monitoring but their cables are also their archiles' heel. They can be vandalized by people with malicious intentions. A wireless security surveillance camera has no such weakness.

Wireless IP cameras such as the Lorex wireless camera have all the features that are present in traditional CCTV cameras. A person can use it to zoom and pan as needed and capable of infrared heat detection. They can be set to work with motion detectors as well as alarm systems. Another largely unmentioned benefit of a wireless security surveillance camera is that it is usually smaller than most traditional CCTV. This enables a person to fit them into tight spaces. They are therefore more easily concealed and they can be mounted on more places than wired units.

Many people think that a surveillance system is costly but that is not the case at all. It is simplistic and highly versatile. If there is no electrical connection, there are wireless cameras that are fully battery-powered. With a wireless IP camera system, you can use several cameras just as is the setting in traditional CCTV surveillance. The wireless IP is also secure in that if any of the cameras in the system is sabotaged, the system detects the change and sets of an alarm, whether silent or audible.

Traditional CCTV's were limited by the length of video cable available. Putting them too far from the monitors and data storage units was a challenge that has now been overcome by IP cameras. The cameras have virtually no limitation in range because the video they capture can be accessed remotely from anywhere in the world. A reliable Internet connection can also be easily provided to the camera with a long-range wireless router.
